Builded in the style of murus dacicus, the six Dacian fortresses in the Orăştie Mountains, in Romania, were built between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD, for defense and protection against the Roman conquest. Their extended and well-kept remains have a strong and innovative image of the Iron Age. Today, treasure hunters search in the area because Romania lacks legislation in this area. The six fortresses (Sarmizegetusa Regia, Luncani - Piatra Roşie, Costeşti - Blidaru, Costeşti - Cetăţuie, Căpâlna and Banite), which formed Decebal defensive system, are now part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.
